Multimedia Production

In order to pique interest of users and have them deeply explore content, I enjoy analyzing complex concepts by finding applications of new technologies and designing clear interfaces to engage users with the content. As such, multimedia production has been an integral part of my role in project development by creating animation, videos, audio files, image compositions, and illustrations.

Videos & Motion Graphics

To get a glimpse of daily life and projects Peace Corps volunteers engaged in with communities around the world, I transformed images and videos from the field into short educational clips. These videos were intended for educators to accompany lesson plans created for K-12 students on cross-cultural and global issues. I collaborated closely with content owners and education specialists to determine the focus of each video. Because the files volunteers submitted varied in format, I converted and edited their source files to meet the format used on the website and third party platforms. I also recorded supplemental audio of volunteers—remotely or onsite—edited the audio, and incorporated the audio into videos.

Listening Resources

To address different learning styles, we incorporated audio files as educational tools in many forms—podcasts, translated stories in other languages, and language lessons. I recorded voice talent, in person or remotely by phone; edited the audio files; and uploaded them directly onto the website or incorporated them into interactive modules. Podcasts of stories were made accessible to subscribers from the website and through RSS feeds uploaded to a web server.

Interactive Modules

To engage students to explore various topics, I created interactive educational modules as a means to deliver expanded features. I presented content in various ways—audio narratives to describe experience, zoom features to examine details of a topic, and animation to depict complex systems. To deliver interactivity, I used animation, actionscript, HTML, XML loaded data, and then incorporated the module into a website. I prototyped the interfaces for my teamates of education specialists to obtain feedback. Then I provided iterations applying the suggestions until we were all satisfied with the product.

Educational Game

Liasing with game developers, I communicated the agency requirements for a Flash based game; conducted user-tests on prototypes; provided agency feedback; conducted quality assurance testing; and launched the final product on website.

To develop lesson plans and activities, I collaborated with education specialists to determine content; implemented interactive modules based on topics from the game and incorporated them into website. Additionally, I coordinated with an education technologist from Delaware Department of Education to coordinate a summer project with international students from seven countries using the educational game. We presented the process and results of the international online collaboration project at a national education technology conference.

Interactive Art Education

With the Interactive Educational Technologies team at a museum in San Francisco, I worked on multimedia production to develop educational features delivered in museum kiosks and online. I mocked up high fidelity compositions; convert concepts of designs into interactive screens; authored new presentations using the museum's proprietary authoring application; and populated data into content management system. I captioned videos, scanned and color corrected images, and created motion graphics using Flash animation and actionscript. Managing bug reports, I troubleshot reported issues and fixed multimedia assets to assure presentations worked properly before and after launch dates.

Illustration

I also create digital illustrations. Here I played with brushes, blends, gradient meshes, patterns, and freehand.
